PUBLIC NOTICE

Prescribed Fire Burn Window: March 1 May 31, 2019

You may see or smell smoke at times between the dates listed above due to a planned prescribed burn at the Tannersville Cranberry Bog Preserve. In 2019 we are planning to bum two burn units, totaling 10-acres, to be maintained with prescribed fire as open field habitat. The two units are located off of Bog Road on the Weiss Tract in Pocono Township.

These burns are carefully planned and implemented and are used as a management tool to maintain the native vegetation and wildlife at this site.

The prescribed burns are conducted under precise, closely monitored weather conditions by a specially trained crew that is nationally, and state qualified in prescribed fire. Every precaution is taken to ensure the safety of the public and the burn crew, and the prescribed burns will not take place if the proper weather and fuel conditions are not met.

The Pennsylvania Chapter of The Nature Conservancy prides itself in the safe and careful application of prescribed fire, and the safety record of our burn program. If you have any questions about The Nature Conservancy or our fire program, please feel free to contact us.

Respectfully,

Patrick McElhenny, Fire Manager
